Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A disturbing incident is being reported from the Belgachia, Paikpara area of Kolkata, where a young man was allegedly subjected to a brutal assault after a group of individuals ascertained his religious identity. The youth, who is Muslim, is currently said to be admitted to Apollo Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
According to initial reports, the young man was traveling on his motorcycle through the Paikpara locality when he felt an urgent need to relieve himself. He reportedly stopped by the roadside to do so. At this moment, a group of approximately 10-15 individuals allegedly surrounded him.
The group is said to have confronted the youth, demanding to know whether he was Hindu or Muslim. Upon his response that he was Muslim, the assailants allegedly proceeded to viciously attack him using bamboo sticks. The severity of the beating necessitated his subsequent hospitalization.
Sources indicate that senior police officials, including CP Manoj Verma, arrived at the scene following the incident. An investigation into the matter is presumed to be underway, although official statements detailing the extent of the injuries or arrests made are awaited.
